How LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) is made?

Chemical Composite of LVT

  • includes polyninyl chloride resines (PVC) and calcium carbonate.
  • its primary component is PVC vinyl, which makes LVT dimensionally stable and flexible.

There are 4 processes in making Luxury Vinyl Tiles.

  • Calendering process
  • Lamination process
  • Embossing process and
  • Inspection process

1. Calendering Process

  • uses a series of heated rollers to “roll or squeeze” the compound into a continuous sheet.
  • by manipulating the rolls, the width and thickness of the sheet can be controlled with precise accuracy and consistency.
  • once the sheet is passed through the heated rolls, it is then sent through a cooling section and sent to lamination.

2. Lamination Process

  • several layers are fused together under heat and pressure.vinyl backing – sound absorbing layer with textured grip
  • vinyl core – stability layer for indentation resistance
  • print film layer (with your chosen design) – realistic photograph or 3D visuals that can be installed to resemble ceramic or stone.
  • protective clear layer known as “wear layer” – plays crucial role in the lifespan of the tiles.

3. Embossing Process

  • once all the layers are fully formed.
  • under heat and pressure, engraved rollers apply the textured design onto the face of the product, which can be light or deep emboss.
  • then the scratch and scuff Top Coat will be applied.
  • the whole slab pass through an annealing oven that uses heated air which brings the entire slab’s temperature to a point where any stress between the layers can be relieved.
  • the slab is then let cooled down.
  • the slabs are palletized and taken to inspection.

4. Inspection Process

  • slabs are stored in an air controlled room that will maintain the same temperature year round.
  • the room keeps the product in a uniform state for milling process.
  • technicians inspect each slab for mark defective areas.
  • the non-defective slabs will be loaded into the press where product sizes are determined.
  • the slabs are sent to milling.
  • the product is boxed, wrapped, stacked on pallet and ready for shipment.
